Gave It up for Religion

Gave It up for Religion

Gas & the General formed in early 2001 and disbanded 5 years later. Represented here on 'Gave it Up for Religion' are some of the original sings from the band's set from that period when they were King Street rackateers of live rock in inner city Sydney. These original songs were heavily flavoured with their own melodic style influenced by the likes of John Fogerty and Tom Waits. The band name refers to the two musicians responsible for Gas & the General, Richard Lawson aka Gas Wylde and Evan Lee aka The General. Only they can be held fully responsible for anything to do with Gas & the General, like producing high quality rock with a message, one that shouldn't take long. With roofs and rings and ropes and rays and leather, viruses and burns and dying. Man, I just gave it up for religion.
