English, Scots, Irish or Welsh folk music has a long traditional heritage. The British folk revival was grounded in work by Englishman Cecil Sharp at the turn of the 20th century. In 1911 Sharp founded the English Folk Dance Society, which promoted traditional dances and which later merged with the Folk Song Society in 1932 to form the English Folk Dance and Song Society.
