I Remember House
Alex Agore's profile has gone through the roof in the past two months, due primarily to the epic deep house techno anthems Cafe Au Lait and Memories supported by Moodymanc, Moodymann and compiled by German top producers Harley and Muscle on their Addicted to House vol. 8 compilation. Although he got quite some attention through his myspace already, his debut single on 4lux was the first exposure to his diverse productions for many of those who had only recently gotten hip to him. I remember House is a four-track EP, and Alex Agore uses the longer format to display his varying styles quite effectively. Things kick off with That Would Be Alright, a deep hi-tech-soul cut that wouldn't sound out of place amongst the deepest Francois K dj sets. The rhodes and thick bass segue perfectly into the house skeleton of the EP. Who's Gonna Lose is a beatiful deep house cut wioth d**e vocal snippets and uplifting beats. The title cut on the b-side strips away most of the harmony and replaces it with jacking lo-fi drum machine programming and minimal dubbed out rhodes chords to create a late night banger. Another smooth transition marks the fourth track Street Laws which is a rhodes and stringed-out epic that will be getting hammered by the deep house jocks. It's rare to find a producer who can put out four hot tracks that sound almost nothing alike, but still have an easily identifiable signature sound. Alex Agore happens to be one of those few, and the results are just as good for listeners as it is for DJs who will find the flexibility of this 12-inch an asset in their crates.
