Don't Lay Your Blues on Me

Don't Lay Your Blues on Me

by Steve HoffmanWeathersby's debut CD as a session leader is a satisfactory set of contemporary guitar-driven blues. From 1982 to 1996 he was guitarist with Chicago harp player Billy Branch's Sons of the Blues. Weathersby plays in an Albert King style, typically bending and sustaining each note for all it's worth. Although his career is not associated with New Orleans, he recorded this album there with ace Crescent City sidemen Lee Zeno on bass, Herman Ernest on drums, and Dave Torkanowsky on keyboards. They lay down a solid foundation that really cooks.
