Worldbeat Brazil
by William Ruhlmann
Nashville, TN, is a long way from Brazil, and Jack Jezzro and David Lyndon Huff, two Nashville session musicians, are not from there, so one may ask what business they have recording an album called Worldbeat Brazil. The answer is that, like many session musicians, they are generalists who look at different kinds of music as a series of stylistic gestures and are adept at quickly capturing and replicating those gestures. Here, Huff sets up percussion tracks using programming to include everything from musical instruments to sound effects, and Jezzro solos on an acoustic gut string guitar over the results. The music may have only a nodding acquaintance with anything really Brazilian, but it is pleasant, and makes attractive background listening.
