Central Park / Connected
David Mayne debuted on Echelon in 2011 with a solid progressive single 'Warsaw'. He now returns on the label with a cool EP 'Central Park / Connected'. David's new tracks are still essentially progressive but now have a grittier punch in general. Both of the tracks enjoy the melodic and structural elegance of the producer but are quite different in their atmosphere. 'Central Park' begins with a melodic intro passage which flashes the solitary main theme a bit. Through a pensive mid-break, the track evolves into a second sequence with some ripping bass work. 'Connected' has a more immersive melodic feel and begins with fluttering tones and a catchy thematic sequence. The polyphony is carefully arranged and the bass-percussion section has a solid groove, while glimpses of a female vocal throw in some aural gusto. The second part shows some edgier bass experimentation with the early themes recurring. All in all, the EP is pretty solid and David Mayne is becoming an interesting producer to follow in the future.
