19.99

BOYNEXTDOOR are returning with their 3rd EP 19.99 on September 9.

Following their 2nd EP HOW? (April 2024), which climbed a notable 69 spots from their 1st EP WHY.. (September 2023) to land at No. 93 on the Billboard 200, BOYNEXTDOOR (SUNGHO, RIWOO, JAEHYUN, TAESAN, LEEHAN and WOONHAK) are poised to once again captivate listeners of all ages with their relatable stories as your friendly boys next door.

19.99, the title of the 3rd EP, is an imperfect number that symbolizes the moment right before turning 20, the most passionate time in life. The new album candidly explores the immature yet innocent thoughts and profound dilemmas of youth at the cusp of transitioning from their teens to twenties. Comprised of members who are either newly in their twenties or on the verge of turning 20, K-pop’s free spirits have actively participated in the album’s production, contributing to both composition and lyrics of six out of seven tracks, to capture the essence of the experiences of their youth. Their music is bound to resonate deeply with those navigating the ups and downs of transitioning to adulthood.

Capturing the Essence of Being 19.99 Through Music Inspired by Everyday Moments

The album stemmed from the sextet’s fears and introspections about becoming a grown-up. The diverse range of emotions experienced by the members as they navigate the beginning of their twenties—loneliness, freedom, confidence—were central to their creative process. The album’s narrative explores various themes: enjoying one last carefree act of freedom and rebellion before adulthood (“Dangerous”), experiencing innocent heartache over a breakup (“Gonna Be A Rock”), eagerly anticipating life’s new chapter with overflowing confidence (“Nice Guy”), and realizing the less glamorous reality of turning 20 (“20”), while still offering comfort to others in their own unique way (“Call Me”). They also playfully share their thoughts on turning 20 in “SKIT,” positioned midway through the album, adding a light-hearted touch to their reflections.

BOYNEXTDOOR’s idea of youth feels almost tangible. Their music captures the stories of your friendly boys next door, drawn from everyday moments and experiences. From revisiting childhood playgrounds as a foundation for their music to using heartfelt conversations with family as lyrical inspiration, their candid approach resonates deeply across generations, reaching beyond their peers.

Lead Single “Nice Guy”: A Playful Take on the Overflowing Confidence of a 19.99-Year-Old

Lead single “Nice Guy” delivers a universally engaging sound that captivates listeners from the get-go. The track’s groovy rhythm and irresistible catchiness make it hard to resist humming along after just one listen. JAEHYUN, TAESAN, and WOONHAK contributed to writing the lyrics, with TAESAN and WOONHAK also having participated in the composition, to highlight their collective yet diverse interests, strengths, and talents. Joined by executive producer and artist ZICO, along with main producer Pop Time, the track exemplifies a masterful blend of musical sophistication and wide-ranging appeal, demonstrating the high caliber of top-charting musicians.

“Nice Guy” displays the overflowing confidence of a 19.99-year-old, who embodies the belief that one can charm everyone in the world if one’s mind is set on it. This is reflected in the lyrics—“Seoul is mine tonight” and “Guess that natural talent’s my fate”—which offer an honest portrayal of boundless self-admiration. The track’s standout feature is its flirtatious charm, capturing a 19.99-year-old’s endearing attempt at sophistication.

Pre-release Track “Dangerous” Oozes Gen Z Energy

BOYNEXTDOOR’s pre-release track “Dangerous,” revealed on September 2, showcases their signature free-spirited wit and Gen Z energy. The hip-hop track features the sextet’s smooth grooves that rides atop a succinct yet powerful beat, narrating the story of sneaking out at night, a secret one would rather keep from their parents.

The standout feature of “Dangerous” is its authentic portrayal of experiences typical around the age of ‘19.99.’ The lyrics— “I tell him I’m almost home but I’m goofing around” and “I’ve ignored my mom’s nagging when I was little / Counted the patterns on the floor instead”—resonate with peers, while also bringing a sense of nostalgia from those of older generations. The track also incorporates elements inspired by everyday moments, featuring a narration “Hey, mom’s really mad”’ that mimics a younger sibling’s sneaky warning. JAEHYUN, TAESAN, and WOONHAK’s participation in the composition and lyrics enhance the track’s overall vividness, while SUNGHO and LEEHAN’s rebellious vocals add a refreshing edge. RIWOO’s contribution to the choreography captures the track’s mood, delivering a performance perfectly suited to BOYNEXTDOOR.
