Bristol based Ment is currently a relatively unknown entity. However when we discovered a collection of unreleased warm, funk infused house beats on his Soundcloud, then one of those these need to be heardlets start a label moments was had. His debut two-track EP will be released on the 23rd of December.
A-side Forget Me Not is a jazzy house record, which is full of warmth and bounce. A talented instrumentalist, Ment wastes no time to set the record off with a playful groove on some Rhodes. This groove is then really set off with jazzy drums and an infectious bass line that bubbles underneath. This is a record that is sure to get those feet moving.
For the B-side Ment takes a more moody approach whilst maintaining plenty of warmth and lo-fi charm. Woods begins of with some deep spacey synths, which then continue to emanate throughout the track. Soon the record fills out with warm chords, a smooth understated bass line and drifting vocals. Altogether this sets a really interesting feel, with the deep synth line getting driven along by an undercurrent of smooth funky house.
With lots more material already in the pipeline, and a 12 inch release already penciled in for next year, it looks like its finally time that those unearthed gems will get the audience they deserve.
