Outlock
Tvardovsky's Stereo Paradise imprint returned in a big way with the first installment of the 'Space Signals' compilation series last month. The labels 25th overall release sees Reflection Soul returning for his fourth overall appearance and his debut album entitled 'Outlook'. Robert Besmaternykh aka Reflection Soul hails from Russia and is one of many new hot up and coming melodic techno producers. The year began with his 'Aurora Borealis' EP on Stereo Paradise which was stunning and he's also had quality releases on 99percent, Deep Blue Eyes, Balkan Connection and Mistique since. Reflection Soul's debut LP is one that's aimed squarely at the dance floor. The 10 cuts included here showcase the Russian producers unique blend of melodic techno and contemporary progressive house perfectly. The moody, low slung grooves and alien like design of 'Formation' lay down the framework for whets come. 'Black Keys' takes the otherworldly or spacey quality a step further with a plethora of sonic elements that really shine. The energy levels rise quickly as the LP progresses. The rolling grooves and serene soundscapes of 'Iridescent' seem almost tailor made for a Hernan Cattaneo set and represent today's ultra cool blend of hazy backdrops and hypnotic lines perfectly. It's the delicate beauty amidst the warped foundations that also really hit the mark here. On cuts like 'Acid Funk' and 'Hybrid' the underbelly of character infused grooves and twisted tendencies are marvellously offset with the shimmering harmonics and mysterious melodies. The album reaches a much smoother and flowing dynamic with 'September' and 'Warm Days Of Fall'. It seems like the ultimate climax in a way which brings a sense of both exhilaration and relief. The album closes with the appropriately titled 'Final' and the sum of its parts is the ideal culmination for the LP. The rolling waves of modulating synths, bubbly acid textures and sheets of harmonic bliss tantalize the senses and leave you with a warm and positive overview of the collection. A splendid debut LP from Reflection Soul who is set for many great things.
