“Version of Us” is an honest self-examination of RKVC. From the heart wrenching title track questioning the events that led to the current state of a relationship to the bubbly opener “Are You Ready?”, the self-deprecating romantic pop rock duo ventures into new territory both musically and conceptually all while still maintaining their sonic identity. “The Game” is a hip-hop flavored James Bond theme that finds R&B newcomer Maggie Gabbard in more of a musical battle with RKVC than a duet. The aggressive “After Me” and power ballad “The Great Escape” punctuate honest introspection all while tracks like “She Hates Me (But She Loves This Song)” and “John Faye” (the latter a tribute to its namesake) keep this project from being too serious and bring the fun elements that RKVC has become known for.
