BIOGRAPHY Bryan Anderson & The Keys WHO ARE THEY? NewWestminster’s own piano rock band, ‘Bryan Anderson & The Keys’ focus on melody driven music with catchy hooks and memorable lyrics. The title track, ‘That Song’ really does get ‘stuck in your head’. Their music has received comparisons to Elton John, Billy Joel and Bruce Hornsby, with emphasis on the strength of the song writing. Formed in 2006 with members Bryan Anderson (song writing, vocals, keyboard), Randall Miron (drums) and Christian Evans (guitar, bass, vocals), ‘The Keys’ were nameless and simply rehearsed original music out of Christian’s garage. In late 2006, Bryan decided he wanted to record his music in a studio. Through a friend from school, he landed on Dream Maker studios in North Vancouver with owner John Lynch and Producer David Jewer. After the New Year, he met up with David Charan (guitar, vocals) while playing at a local open mic at the Orange Room. David was an immediate fit with the band and brought a sense of rock and a real edge to the songs. Together, The Keys reentered the studio to add three more songs, guitar and bass tracks to the original demo. Their first show would be their CD Release Party, which was held at the Blarney Stone in Gastown, Vancouver in front of an eagerly awaiting crowd who were treated to an emotionally powerful and dynamic live performance. Unfortunately, it would be the last show for bass player, Christian Evans, who decided to quit the band and focus on his own dreams. This left The Keys in search of a new bass player. They decided to look inside their circle of friends and quickly lucked upon Justin Lewis (bass) who was keen to join and quick to learn. The Keys were now fully formed and looking ahead to the future. GOALS SET. GOALS MET… Armed with a CD loaded with radio-friendly songs, Bryan Anderson & The Keys set their sights on three main goals for the summer of 2007. They wanted to be playing shows around the lower mainland, to play an outdoor festival and to be heard on the radio. The shows came first as a result of a friends’ new business venture. One of their friends from the Orange Room started up a production company called Panoramic Productions and booked 6 shows for The Keys in the month of July alone. Next, following advice from his parents in Ontario, Bryan Anderson sent his CD to CBC’s Fresh Air. A week later, Bryan received an email requesting 30 more CD’s to be distributed to all CBC radio stations nationwide. The following two weeks found The Jazz Tune and That Song played out of Saskatchewan and then once in BC. The Keys really hit their stride when they were chosen by CBC’s Mark Rheaume as one of four top independent bands out of Ontario (or connected). Bryan was so intent on listening to his song being played on the radio, he arranged to call his friend at 4:30 in the morning and hear his music being played on the other side of the country. Expecting to hear the title track, ‘That Song’ because of the airplay it was getting, Bryan was happily surprised to find that a third track had been selected: That Old Place. This is an excerpt taken from CBC’s Fresh Air hosted by Mark Rheaume: [Mark: …and this album is really good because it brings to mind Bruce Hornsby, Billy Joel, Elton John, that kind of adult contemporary pop… Karen: …But you’re also…When you talk Bruce Hornsby, Billy Joel, Elton John, to me that says song writing. Mark: Yes. And the song writing is a very big thing on this album, Karen. This is the kind of release that you would love to see the late FM and AM stations kinda jump all over it. There’s a lot of really really good tracks on this. It’s a solid effort all the way through. I couldn’t really, well I had a hard time picking just one, but I think what we’ll do is we’ll go with a tune, this time, called That Old Place.] The third goal came when Bryan Anderson & The Keys clinched the last spot at NewWestminster’s FraserFest. They would be playing a one hour set on the main stage at an outdoor festival. The weather was not to cooperate, in fact it poured, but a large crowd gathered nonetheless under tents around the main stage to cheer on their local musicians. With help from his musician friend Shawn Hlookoff, (winner of the 2006 talent show at the PNE), Bryan recorded a video audition for the newly titled Red Robinson’s Talent Showdown. He was accepted as a semi-finalist and his band The Keys went on to play their title track, ‘That Song’ at the Rogers’ Amphitheatre in front of hundreds of awaiting people at the PNE. THE PRESENT… Bryan Anderson & The Keys have recently released their 2nd album called, ‘Now Playing’ and have decided to work with Abaca Entertainment Group to promote their music in hopes of getting it published.
