Alfred Orlando “Al” Johnson Jr. formed the Unifics in the 1960’s and was lead vocalist on their hits “The Court Of Love” and “The Beginning Of My End”. The 1970’s found Al working with renowned producer Norman Connors and provided guest vocals on Norman Connors hit “Take It To The Limit. Norman Connors produced Al’s major label debut, “Back for more”. The title cut from the album “Back for more”, was a duet with Jean Carne that has gone on to become a soul music classic. Al Johnson spent most of the 80’s & 90’s continuing to provide session help for other artist including the Whispers, Roberta Flack, and Pebo Bryson. On the early 1980's, the songwriting of Derrick Doc Pearson caught the ear of Al. Al was so impressed with the music he contacted Doc personally to seek out more of his songs. That started a friendship and musical collaboration that would span nearly 3 decades. From 1984 until Al passed, Derrick Doc Pearson and Al Johnson recorded close to 100 songs together in various studios for local, national and independent artist. Al continued working into the 21st century recording & performing with Jeff Majors “Sacred” series, recording vocals for the highly acclaimed “23rd Psalm”. Al passed unexpectedly October 26, 2013.

After his death, Doc Pearson honored and featured his friend and vocal legend on his own inspirational gospel music release, “It’s Alright” Derrick Doc Pearson Featuring Al Johnson - iTunes- https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/its-alright/id871418171. “It’s Alright” reached Top 10 on Billboards Gospel Albums chart in 2014.

While cataloging and inventorying digital audiotapes in his studio, Doc Pearson found some unreleased songs he and Al recorded together. Doc in conjunction with Luder Music is sharing these songs and awesome vocal performances by Al Johnson with his fans around the world in this soul R&B release, “The Morning After”.

The Morning After title tracks is a soulful romantic ballad, where a man lets his lover know that he wants more than a one-night stand. The ballad shows off Al’s amazing vocal range and reflections as he croons the romantic track. Also featured is “Baby I’m For Real”, a soulful remake of the classic hit song pinned by Marvin Gaye for the Originals. Doc & Al kept the Motown classic sound while adding their own jazzy soulful contemporary style and arrangement. Other standouts tracks include “It’s Been Too Long”, “Lonely” and “Good Love” an up tempo duet with Al Johnson and Doc & Al's longtime friend and former Chic lead singer Sylver Logan Sharp.
