Originally form the Tampa Bay Area, Dave grew up a 20 minute bicycle ride from St. Pete Beach. Southern rock had an early influence, but the sound and style of Jimmy Buffett really spoke to him. Growing up in a musical household, Dave originally started singing for himself, but soon discovered that, much to his surprise, other people enjoyed listening to him also. Dave started singing at the Skunk's Nest in Wildwood Florida for free beer & tips.

Dave & Patty met in John's Pass Village in Madeira Beach, Florida. Patty was on vacation (from Chicago) in the Spring of 2004, when she happened to stumble upon a little place called Sun Downer's, where Dave was entertaining. The owner (Jim) had nicknamed Dave and his previous musical partner "Mud Flap and Flip Flop", and the name just kind of stuck......
