
Winter Light
This short playing album was recorded and produced by Justin Oppus in the concert hall at UMass Lowell. The tracks represent the original work of harpist and vocalist Luz (Danielle Levy). This is her first collection of original songs, a labour of love whose creation spanned the best part of two years.
Luz's interest in the harp began with exposure to a folk harpist at a craft fair in the south of England, where she grew up. The harpist allowed her to play his instrument, to which she immediately felt connected. When Luz moved to America in the late nineties, she quickly took up classical harp at UHartt's Community Division. She studied there until graduating from high school, playing occasionally with the orchestra and at other local events such as memorial services, and holiday celebrations.
When Luz moved to New York to attend NYU, she took up lessons with acclaimed jazz harpist Brandee Younger. During this time, Luz pursued more contemporary music including playing with a jazz ensemble and transcribing
