Distant but Close

Distant but Close

Distant But Close is the second full-length release from Chicago's indie-prog trio, Moon. It is a cohesive record which balances power and melody, complexity and accessibility. It features a sonic landscape of rich layered guitars and a propulsive rhythm section, and laced with electronic atmosphere. David Azizinamini's vocals are soaring and melodic over his rich palette of guitars - at turns chiming or crunchy. Chris Shen's bass often carries the melodies and Chris Schneberger's drums provide thunderous propulsion and rhythmic dynamics. The album kicks off with the slow burner, The Reason, which builds to a bombastic, frenzied coda layered with chaotic noise. Bright Blue Sky is a journey of arrangement, each part building on the previous one and leading to the next. Always Summer is a propulsive catchy rocker. Hands In The Car is a lush, spacious breather in the middle of the record and features a violin solo by Gerry Hilera. TV Set is another meandering yet compelling arrangement. Stars begins with a rhythmic exploration, under high chiming guitars and arcing vocals, but ends in a high speed rock romp. The album ends with the epic track, Stop, Please, Softly - starting as a dark progressive meditation, it grows to a climactic outro of near-punk abandon.

Distant But Close was recorded and mixed with Mike Hagler over the course of five months at Kingsize Sound Labs. The album was largely funded through an Indiegogo campaign which raised over $2000 from fans.
