"FORMULA" was formed or formulated by a group of guys from the foothills of Appalachia in 1983. Heavily influenced by Journey, Yes, Moody blues, and Pink Floyd, the original members, Tom Baize, Danny Lusk, Larry Hall and L.E. Simpkins set about to create a style of original music that is built upon the influences of their youth.

The idea was to incorporate original tunes into a cover set of songs to play live. Soon the group realized their best material was their own. This was very satisfying, however it was very difficult for the group to get their songs heard anywhere except in local nightclubs or community events. This limited their exposure quiet a bit. Remember, they were trying to play progressive rock music in a small country town.

A couple of years into the project Paul Pigman stepped in to fill the void left by the death of Larry Hall. After several disappointing demo tries at larger studios, the group found the secret of keeping the music going and keeping the "FORMULA" alive and well. The Musi
