Spanning the Globe: Music from Six Continents
For this project, Eleonore Pameijer and Marcel Worms invited composers from six continents (Europe, North and South America, Africa, Asia and Australia) to compose a work for flute and piano. The composition should include elements that the composer considers essential to his or her culture in the broadest sense. This could mean being culturally part of a region, a country, or even, for instance, part of a broader European or African culture. The borders of the culture to which one belongs are constantly shifting.
As of April 2006, the Six Continents Project - in which more than twenty composers from all over the world are participating - has been presented in the Netherlands, Kosovo, Bosnia, Slovenia, Switzerland, Israel, Sri Lanka, India and the USA. The number of compositions is still growing. Eleonore Pameijer and Marcel Worms will continue this project in the years to come. They have created a unique account of cultural diversity, literally spanning the globe.
