Not Alone in the World (feat. Hannah King)

Not Alone in the World (feat. Hannah King)

Written after the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami, this song is a heartfelt message of support for the people of Japan. ‘Not Alone in the World’ is the first release by singer-songwriter Bénjad, sung in English and Japanese, featuring Hannah King. Recorded at Chetham’s School of Music, the musicians were all students and friends of Bénjad – many of whom have gone on to conservatoires around the UK.

The single has a classical, melancholic sound which tries to convey the emotions felt by everyone affected by the disaster. It also features Hannah King on oboe in a duet with the clarinet, with long, melodious, singing lines evoking a feeling of loss. There is a sense of support and hope at the end when the vocalists sing the Japanese lyrics together before a peaceful ending.

The single was released on the first anniversary of the tragedy. All profits raised by sales of the single will be donated to Japanese charities or charities in aid of Japan.
