PORTLAND’S SILVERHAWK RELEASE “CLASS WAR” FOR DOWNLOAD
PORTLAND, Ore. (November 28, 2011)--Long before protesters took to their tents and rallied around the Occupy Movement, brothers Sam and John Densmore took to their guitars and wrote “Class War”. Rounded out by the rest of the band Silverhawk, the single is a response to being nickel and dimed by a corrupt system, and being frustrated as a result. Amidst dreamy, psychedelic guitar leads, the disappointment is palpable as Sam sings, “Our politicians and talking heads drive in messages consoling while controlling us more.” His lyrics, teetering between hopelessness, resentment, and a need for change, just serve to echo what is being proclaimed across America already.
“Class War”, produced and recorded by Jeremy Wilson (Dharma Bums), is the first single off Silverhawk’s The Forest for the Trees, due out February 7.
Silverhawk glides out of the northwest with a big, soulful psychedelic vibe. The diverse, wide-open sound of the band's third album, The Forest For the Trees twists rock's psychedelic history into innovative new shapes.
Sam and John C. Densmore have been a part of the Northwest music scene since 1992. They've played together in Slow Children, Frequency db, and the Jeremy Wilson Band, but they take the Northwestern sound back to the future on The Forest for The Trees. The brothers share songwriting and vocal duties, trading off on guitar and bass, ably supported by Anthony James Cotham on keyboards and harmony vocals, and drummer Coby Bixby.
