There You Go
“There You Go” draws a backcountry twang into the city with soothing melodies and a throwback sensibility. Alternating vocal leads, hefty harmonies, and catchy hooks circulate the vision crafted from the start; that the heart of music lies in the song. “There You Go” covers a plethora of emotion, ranging from soft ballads and soaring anthems, to stompin’ chaos. With influence from legends like Blue Rodeo, The Beatles, and Hall & Oates, these Toronto charmers are electrified and aim to elevate an original take on that proud, traditional Northern sound.
Each of these dynamic songwriters carries with them their own personal musical history. Smith has broken into the Canadian music scene in his work with 'Union Duke'. He is a co-founder and primary songwriter. Smith has performed at numerous festivals across the country and many sold out shows. He has opened for bands such as The Tragically Hip and Elliott Brood, and shared the stage with The Bros. Landreth and The Elwins. Smith has released two full-length albums that are featured with regular rotation on national and international radio stations. In contrast, Maguire has worn many hats and supported artists including Colinresponse and Flashback, playing various festivals and universities. He has shared the stage with acts from Steppenwolf to Kardinal Offishall. His growing YouTube following and well-received debut album helped make his mark. With great mutual artistic appreciation, the two rising Toronto musicians have finally come together. As the educated and experienced musical crowds converged, Smith and Maguire found themselves singing each other’s songs. It soon became apparent that they shared the same path.
"There You Go" is an album about going places. Movement towards new loves, movement away from old loves. How the worst of times make the best of times sweeter. With a variety of emotional tone, the record plays to the idea that meaning isn't found where you end up, but how you got there. So, there you go.
