In the third part of Royall's four part album, the mood becomes more melancholic. The EP begins with Shinigami, a dark techno track with distorted leads and dissonant chords, a thumping industrial rhythm driving track forward. Release opens with a dusty piano playing soft chords. The track slowly builds until it releases with triumphant synth chords. Apparition shows Royall's more elegant and musical side. The beautiful piano track sounds like something out of a magical forest, complete with the sounds of nature in the background. Finally, Goblins descends once more into angst. The foggy and screechy garage track truly fits the theme of Somber Tones.
