The First Storm is part EP and part concept EP.
It is the predecessor to the upcoming full-length Frozen album (tenatively titled).
While the "frozen album" is near completion, it was shelved for winter 2011 so that it would have a more appropriate release date.
In The First Storm, the album builds up to the pinnacle song "Heart Attack" in which the "first storm" arrives.
There are many storms after that, but none as legendary.
These storms bring on major climate change which causes a modern-day ice age (hence, the "frozen" album).

The songs are all about different emotions including estrangement, loneliness, indifference, heart break, and unrequited love.
The songs all feature the same two characters from Frozen, before the storms' arrival.
