Heigh Ho Holiday

Heigh Ho Holiday

Heigh Ho Holiday is Piva's first full length cd and it was released in December 2010 to great critical acclaim. The selection of music on the cd illustrates the different settings where music would have been played during the reign of Elizabeth I - from the highest court in the land through to the lowliest village green. Piva has taken some well known ballad and dance music from the period and developed new and innovative arrangements and it is played on a wide variety of instruments. From the soft viol and renaissance guitar through to the rousing sound of bagpipes, hurdy gurdy, cornet and sackbutt. The music reflects the Elizabethans love of music, dancing and generally having a good time.

"This is a must have album because it contains great tunes played well while bringing to life the roots of English traditional dance music.” fRoots Magazine
“This is a joyous reclamation of Elizabethan repertoire that has often fallen victim to inappropriately po-faced treatment by ‘serious’ Renaissance consort groups. Piva are clearly having sheer good fun. **** (4 Stars) Early Music Today
“ A fine debut, that is artfully produced, skilfully arranged and worthy of repeated listens. A welcome addition to the shelves” Chanter Magazine
