
Tune in the Sun
Haywood started out as a simple joke. It just got carried way too far. We were named after one of Stephen’s dog, Haywood. We started playing at a place called Fitzwilly’s in College Station, Texas… we told them we were a cover band… and then proceeded to play all of our own songs… which we had written in the previous three weeks. Eventually, we played at Mt. Aggie, which was subsequently destroyed by the Texas A&M Athletic department. We soon progressed to festivals, and bigger venues, and then we decided to make a CD… so, we took out a student loan (intended for food and clothing), and spent it at a recording studio. Three months later we had a CD in hand, it was called Flat Tires. We had a big CD Release Party at the 3rd Floor Cantina, and the next thing you know, they were playing our songs on the radio, and the local paper named us as Band of the Year.
