She was very close to the so-called "Generation of 1927" in Spain, whose members included Federico García Lorca, Salvador Dalí, and Luis Bunuel. During the Spanish Civil War she moved to New York, where she met the famous dancer José Greco and joined his dance troupe. In 1943 she made a successful appearance at the Metropolitan Opera House, with her work "El Café de Chinitas". She died in New York and her body was taken back to Spain
