Reflections Of

Reflections Of

by Justin M. KantorA flowing set of laid-back disco nuggets, sultry siren Williams' standout sophomore set slithers with sass and sophistication. The singer's sinuous style particularly stands out on the soothing groover, "I Get It," a remarkably mellow early-A.M. club pleaser, and the captivating "Love Constitution." The latter, as well as four other tunes here, were co-written by Williams with fellow bandmembers (the album's players were all regulars in her live shows). Though the album failed to generate much chart action stateside, "Dance the Night Away" and "Tell the World About Our Love" did well in Canada and Europe, respectively. However, the true underrated gem here is the spunky, uplifting "Take Your Time," a diligent abode to patience in romantic relationships colored by festive horns, spiffy guitars, and a vivid sax solo. Reflections of Carol Williams is an impressive progression from 'Lectric Lady, with a more varied palette of arrangements and Williams sounding more assured and lively. Originally released in 1978 on Roy B., Hot Productions reissued the album on CD in the mid-'90s. The mastering quality on the reissue varies, with a particularly grainy sound on the set's lovely closing ballad, "He's My Man."
