From the release of Nick Lowe s Heart Of The City/So it Goes in 1976, to its debt ridden demise in 1986, Stiff Records discovered, nurtured and promoted a succession of seminal British acts, including Ian Dury, Elvis Costello, Madness, Kirsty MacColl and the Pogues. However, only one Stiff act ever achieved a top ten placing in the US Billboard charts and that, strangely enough, was Tracey Ullman. A multi-talented entertainer, Tracey was a significant presence in the UK singles chart between March 1983 and October 1984 on Stiff Records.
