Johnny Paycheck was coming to Sarasota, Florida in 1975. I had pitched Beer:30 all around Nashville with no luck. When Johnny showed up to play at the Van Wesle in Sarasota, I attempted to get the song him, but failed. A few years later I met Charlie, Johnny's manager who's office was next to mine. I got out my guitar and played the song to Charlie. He replied that they had been searching for a song like that! My buddy, Scott Simon, took the song to Johnny's record label meeting, and a full blown session was scheduled to record Beer:30. Soon after Johnny's emphysema set in, and he was rushed to the hospital where he shortly thereafter passed away...
