Vito and the One Eyed Jacks

Vito and the One Eyed Jacks

Self-titled debut "Vito and the One Eyed Jacks" tells the timeless "sold his soul to the Devil" story in a folky, classic country songwriter's voice. Accompanied by alto and tenor saxophone, dobro, stand-up bass, clarinet, violin, percussion and keys, each song is developed with its own character that conveys its part of the story. Vocal harmonies and layers throughout the album give each song memorable, easily relatable vocal lines for any listener.

Standout tracks include "Courting the Devil," "Under the Stars," "Letter From Death Row," and "Listen to the Birds Sing." "Courting the Devil" is an alto saxophone-driven tune with the flavor of a New Orleans Rag and an irresistible chorus, featuring a ripping solo by saxophonist Gabe Siegel. "Under the Stars" rides on the dobro's growl, as Vito Chiechi narrates the storyteller's visit to his lover's tombstone, longing to join her in eternal slumber. "Letter From Death Row" features clarinet and the violin of Lauren Alexandria Wilder along with standup bass, delivering a chilling landscape behind the storyteller's final words of love. "Listen to the Birds Sing" begins a classic country tale reminiscent of Tom Waits that erupts into an upbeat acceptance of a condemned man's final fate.
