
Collage
This album is a somewhat eclectic mix of compositions I created or collected over the past few years. Like a visual collage, these individual tunes melded together to make an interesting whole. It starts with Blue Fox, a quirky blues built on whole-tone harmonies. It has some little twists and turns that are a lot fun. Our homage to Chopin follows without version of his Étude Opus 25, 12. This piece lends itself quite well to jazz...you just have to hear it for yourself! The Invincible Man is a tune written to capture the vulnerability that even the strongest people always feel. Arrhythmia is a tune based loosely on rhythm changes. It has a distinct Ornette Coleman feel and we approached in a very free manner. The fifth tune, 3 Degrees, is an eerie quasi-lullaby that was composed using twelve-tone techniques. It's a feature for the rhythm section, particularly drummer Andrew Hare. Next is pianist Nathan Lincoln-DeCusatis' Monk-meets-Coltrane tune Peacocking. The group had a lot of fun with this one since it
