We're Not so Very Different (feat. Steve Johnson & Alexis Rafter)

This is a number from the musical "Talent." The styles in the musical are varied, from classical to jazz to just plain show tunes. The show, Talent, takes place back stage at a competition where the first prize is the lead in a new Broadway show. Here is the scene leading up to this number of "Not So Very Different." Music and Lyrics by Todd Fifield. Book and Additional Lyrics by Pat Adeff Fifield.

WHEN THE LIGHTS COME UP, Desiree is sitting at the TV station desk, looking over the financials. She sees something she doesn’t like. Gets slightly frustrated and calls Lyle on his cell.

As we hear the phone ring, the lights come up on Lyle in the theatre working with Mari. In the background, we hear the music for her dance number. His phone rings, he stops showing her the choreography and answers the phone, grabbing a towel, with which to dry off.

LYLE: Yes! (He’s slightly out of breath and irritated that the call interrupted him.)

DESIREE: Lyle. Can you come to the office for a moment?

LYLE: Des
