The Boy Who Couldn't Change Anything

The Boy Who Couldn't Change Anything

Combining catchy, upbeat hooks with aggressive drums and guitar, Normal Fox pulls emotions of "feel-good" pop punk bands such as The Starting Line, The Ataris, The Maine, and All Time Low combined with more hardcore influences. Raised in the Midwest, these boys pull lyrical content from less stereotypical alternative artists and instead narrate the story of "The Boy Who Couldn't Change Anything", whom the writer explains is the "helpless person inside all of us." The album uses metaphors to describe how it feels to grow old and be unable to affect circumstances outside of everyone's control.

The band formed in early 2011 when singer/guitarist Derek Fredericksen began tracking his album with engineer and guitarist, Spencer Fox, at No Passenger Studio. Spencer immediately saw the passion Derek had for his music, and decided it was something he needed to be a part of. Derek later recruited his long time friend Trae Titus of the metalcore band, The End Result, due to his powerful drumming style. Trae suggested trying out his best friend, Jacob Sveum, for bass in order to round out the quartet, and as soon as Jacob heard the demos he knew this is where he had to be.

"The Boy Who Couldn't Change Anything" is an ambitious jump into the alternative scene, and every song varies significantly. From the upbeat opener "Bright Lights" to the 3/4 ballad "The Apology", there is a song for everyone on Normal Fox's release. Each song provides a deep instrumental backing in combination with meaningful lyrics. Normal Fox strives for the revival of alternative music as demonstrated by their new release. Normal Fox is headed for great things, and begins an adventure to grow as friends and follow their dreams.
