Lip Service starts off the 'matka' (journey in Finnish) with unique brass trio lines that dance around between the 2 trumpets and french horn. Sisu BrassLand takes over with some introspective textures, grooves and harmonies as an 8 piece Brass Band (3 trumpets, 2 french horns, 2 trombones and a tuba). A drummer joins the band to finish the journey and add some rhythmic intensity to the compositions composed by Aaron Priskorn.

This project has been a multi year project, spanning 3 years and 3 recording sessions. Lip Service brass trio plays unique sets of original and newly arranged pieces of music that intrigue listeners. Sisu BrassLand is a new brass band that explores new, original music for brass stemming from a strong classical base that joins jazz, latin, swing and other diverse genres of musical style. This recording has truly been a matka of new, original music for brass.

"The final act of the night, eight-piece brass band Sisu BrassLand, took most of their cues from bandleader and composer Aaron Priskorn. Drawing from his own heritage, he christened the group with a Suomi (Finnish) word that loosely translates to tenacity, equanimity, and hardiness. There is, however, a distinct element of fun common to Priskorn’s music and to Sisu’s delivery.

Their set of eight Priskorn compositions ranged in affect from New Orleans funeral (I blame the walking tuba in Difference) and Latin tinges (Swag) to toe-tapping harmonized trumpet lines (5th Edition Revised) and the somber-yet-sonorous descending tetrachords of Aluminous."
