Need You
Andrea Nicole was born in Dublin and raised in the small midlands town of Mullingar in Ireland. Quite a shy and quiet girl in school, Andrea found an outlet of expression when she joined the choir at 5 and began singing in school plays and productions.
At 6 she joined the local dance studio where she began learning a wide variety of styles from Irish dance and ballet to hip-hop and salsa. The annual Dance show and musical allowed Andrea to showcase her talent in both dance and singing; picking up many solo parts and awards at competitions along the way.
By 8 years old, groups like TLC and Destiny’s Child inspired Andrea “I loved what they represented for women, they broke the mold for girl groups of their time. The older I got the more I got into Hip-hop acts from Big L to Eminem to soul and Motown artists; The Supremes, Aretha Franklin to name but a few…” but it wasn’t until Andrea was 14 that she got her first taste of a recording booth when she became the female vocalist for a rap trio. The group started playing shows around Dublin and it was around this time that Andrea developed a deep passion for writing. “I found performing daunting but liberating, I was often one of the only girls there back then getting up singing so I felt like I had to work twice as hard as everyone else; every show helped me build my confidence and writing was therapeutic to me.” Andrea continued to write and record with acts from America and the UK touring as a backing singer but it was in 2008 when Andrea set about forming all-female group UnderGround.
The group went on to write, record and perform alongside artists such as Rick Ross, Tyga, and Chris Brown to homegrown talents from Ireland such as Bressie, Sharon Corr and Damian Dempsey. The girls worked up countless gigs across Ireland, the UK and the States, with a highlight guest performance at The Hotpress Music Show –the European equivalent of Rolling Stone Magazine; sharing a stage that has seen the likes of Sir Bob Geldof, and Bono. That same year, the girls picked up an award for Best New Girl Group at the Irish Entertainment Awards, a nod to their hard work and efforts as independent artists.
However, with the group deciding to go their separate ways and focus on individual projects; forever determined, Andrea Nicole is back and has been in studio recording new material for a number of months; a healthy mix of eclectic sounds –from big dance, drum n bass beats to acoustic numbers paired with her soulful tones, Andrea is excited and focused to bring her new music to people across the world.
"I never want to get complacent, this year is all about working hard, making timeless music, that's my motivation." - A.Nicole
