Abraham Lincoln is America's greatest president. Robert L. Hecker's musical and in-depth, historically accurate study, Honestly Abe, is the first of its kind to address Lincoln's compelling story of his youth. For almost two years, La Muse Venale Acting Troupe has been on a journey of discovery about Abraham Lincoln and the story keeps going, as every door seems to unlock more doors about this great American. From a showcase in New York, Honestly Abe has moved to Off-Broadway where it has ran successfully since January 2012. Along the way, many people have been impacted and changed by this theatrical piece and the power of the man who continues to influence America in profound and dramatic ways.

When I first learned about this Musical “Honestly Abe” I thought “really, a Musical near Broadway in NYC about President Abraham Lincoln?” And then I thought… he is one of the most respected and loved Presidents in American history… “why not?” When I experienced it for the first time it opened my eyes to his struggle in a unique, musical way. Let’s face it, music is memorable. You can hear some times just 2 slaps on your thighs and one hand clap and instantly say “We Will Rock You”! Think about it? When we look back at what Lincoln did for America and learn about his odd sense of humor as well as hiss brilliance as a young aspiring attorney, the composer- Robert Hecker’s ability to take these facts and weave them into a Musical was simply amazing. Cheryl the arranger did a brilliant job creating a synthhestration reference track, and her work at the glorious “Premier Sound NY Studios” in Times Square conducting the instruments, and Jonathan's conducting skills along with Rob’s engineering made a perfect production team. Special thanks to Mark Barasch for awesome accommodations. The lead vocal and mixing sessions at SkyRoom Studios were an amazing experience with some of the finest new voices on Broadway! What a brilliant tribute to President Abraham Lincoln.

It was such a pleasure to orchestrate and conduct the music for "Honestly Abe"! The aspect of this show that I found most challenging and exciting was the diversity of the musical genres; Robert wrote and imagined music that ranged from rock to bluegrass, and I had to create a cohesive musical out of all these different types of songs. The finished product is a show that captures Abraham Lincoln's life experiences and roller-coaster emotions while conveying to the audience that this man will become one of the greatest presidents in the history of the United States of America. I thoroughly enjoyed working with Dave, Jonathan, and Rob on this album, and I am excited to bring Robert's music and lyrics to the millions of people who continue to be affected and inspired by Abraham Lincoln and his legacy.
