Fortune Music (Explicit)
What, you didn't already know? Introducing Freddy Lopez a.k.a. V.S.
The half Puerto Rican, half Dominican rapper has his roots in Lynn, MA
– better known as the east coast's own "City of Sin". This
once-industrious city has since given way to littered, cracked
sidewalks and abandoned buildings. It is this backdrop that first
inspired V.S. to express himself through art. First with graffiti,
then break dancing, and now through his music. V.S. has been
fine-tuning his skills for more than five years, and in such a short
amount of time, has accomplished more than rappers with twice the
experience. Flash back to 2004, V.S. releases Better Off Alone, hosted
by Brick/Last Arc Recording artist Insight. This acclaimed release was
a surprising and welcomed departure from the status quo "rapper
mixtapes" that have flooded the industry. V.S. managed to reach the
hip-hop purists and street fans alike without sacrificing content.
Quickly following the success of Better Off Alone, V.S. released the
anticipated mixtape Speech Therapy. This time around, V.S. recruits
The Source Magazine's Unsigned Hype and DJ Premier-approved emcee
Termanology to host the mixtape which boasts original production by 7L
(of 7L & Esoteric) and J. Cardim (Talib Kweli, Jean Grae, Saigon, Red Cafe
and Sheek of the Lox). Once again staying slightly left of center, V.S.
finds a way to bring something fresh to a stagnant industry and with a
new mixtape (Fortune Music Vol.1) and debut album (Diamond Quality) in the works, (3rd quarter 2009) he promises to take his sound as a b-boy, street rapper, and poet to the
next level. He is poised to release music that defies genres: that is
involving enough to make people dance, insightful enough to make
people think, and hot enough to make people listen a second time.
