Hopefully Broken
After a wildly successful Kickstarter campaign, Zimmerman releases their sophomore album, "Hopefully Broken", a collection of eight songs crafted over three years.
Hailing from Reno, NV, a place teeming with new life and renovation, it shouldn't be surprising to find themes of renewal and second chances are prominent, strung together by the faith shared by all the band members.
Some songs find their lyrical origins in the early 1900s, like "Grace Greater" and "Stricken Smitten" but seem a natural fit for the gathered church next Sunday. Others arrive theologically robust, and melodically purposeful without being showy. Still other tracks such as "Sunken Pages" and "I Am Broken" seem to have been torn from a journal; private yet universal, candid yet thoughtful.
While not unrecognizable from their debut record, "This Missing Peace", this second release progresses deliberately and carries maturity and depth beyond their first offering. Rather than rush to a second release, the group dedicated themselves to writing a large crop of songs of which only the best would earn a spot on this record. The patience has served them well.
