Lonesome Dangers
This album began as a series of basement demos during the autumn of 2014. Inspired by Beck’s "One Foot in the Grave", I originally planned to record a lo-fi anti-folk EP. I wanted a surreal and odd sound, so I contacted Cortez—the talented writer and performer that he is— in hopes that he would provide synth to starkly contrast my guitar.
The project took off immediately. We traded demos and found the lens through which we would write. I had songs about lonely cowboys and he had songs about lonely martians. We thought it would be cool to channel one constant emotion through two distinct world views. The ideas were coming so naturally, we decided to release a full album.
There are two vague arcs in "Lonesome Dangers". One involves a scientist struggling with escapism after the departure of his lover. The other involves an alien who seeks human romance.
This sounds a little contrived, but trust me, there’s plenty of ambiguity to casually enjoy the songs and to make conclusions of your own.
