Mute Swan Songs
Ploughing their own furrow through the stoney pop fields of Cumbria with hot valves feeding their dirty guitars they unearth such diverse subject matter as dinosaurs in discos, farm animals in bikinis and genetic drunkeness; via architecture, houndtrailing and the massacre of lifeboatmen by supernatural forces.
Not to mention the characters who inhabit the songs, with Marvin Gaye, Uri Gagarin and Joey Ramone rubbing shoulders with basking sharks, God and murderous waitresses.
The album Mute Swan Songs has added keyboards, strings and orchestral arrangements to the core guitar-driven sound, resulting in a richer, lusher, almost filmic soundscape.
There are tales of crow people, vampire lovers, swashbuckling adventurers and needlework disasters right along side an homage to cult author JG Ballard, and a ballad about puppy killing and wartime atrocities.
There’s even a couple of straightforward love songs.
The band come from Carlisle, Cumbria (England). More info is available at the official website: cosmiccat.
