War On Peace

War On Peace

A punk band that hails from the Bush-loving, Bible thumping Midwest should have a lot to write about. Without a powerful creative outlet the members of this band would probably have to resort to burning down barns.

Fishwacker has had enough and channels their anger into their CD “War On Peace.” Having noticed that their country seems to lose anything it has labeled it “has a war on” Fishwacker finds inspiration in all of the hypocrisy, confusion, and utter hopelessness of conservatism gone wild. Their anger comes through clearly in this collection of punk tunes laced with lunk-head rock and jazz flavors.

Bass player Jeff Newlin, who was quoted in the St Joseph New Press as saying that “Bush has done more for punk rock than even Reagan did,” played with several punk bands in Southern California before moving to Missouri in 1999. But with the stolen election of 2000 and the bizarre local support of Bush and his gang he had no other choice but to team up with local pissed off musician Bob Martin. Martin was growing increasingly bored with the local classic rock scene and ever more disappointed with his own baby boomer generation. Teaming up with Newlin they were able to find lots of common ground to create a unique sound that left local rural Missouri audiences dazed and confused. They added the jazzy flavor of high school standout drummer Keith Urban who had been trapped in one of the many Missouri high schools that seemed to provide no outlet for his own creativity. Shortly after starting up with Fishwacker - right around his 17th birthday - Keith was promptly fired from his good paying country gig for refusing to keep things simple slow and simple.

Together they present “War on Peace” - a wirlwind of war, regret, drugs, and nuclear research.
