
Liya Petrova
Liya Petrova was born in 1990 in Sofia, Bulgaria in a family of musicians. At the age of six, she was already performing with various orchestras and at the age of eight she was awarded with Mozart Medal and rating The youngest artist of UNESCO. She appears as a chamber musician at some of Europe’s most distinguished festivals, and in 2011, Liya was invited to take part in a chamber music concert series in Athens, playing with Marta Argerich, Renaud Capucon, Yuri Basmet and Misha Maisky. Liya began her studies at the age of four in Sofia. In 2001 she entered the Hochschule fur Musik und Theater Rostock with Prof. Petru Munteanu. In 2012 she joins a tour with DeFilharmonie under Phillipe Hereweghe. Since 2010, Liya is studying at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel, under the direction of Augustin Dumay. Liya Petrova plays a unique Italian violin Matteo Goffriller 1690, made available to her by the Music Chapel. Liya benefits from a scholarship granted by InBev-Baillet Latour. She is also the 2nd prize winner of the International violin contest Varga Sion Valais, for her interpretation of Felix Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto in E minor, Op. 64 , rewarded unanimously by the jury.
