Anqui is an emerging singer-songwriter characterized by her versatile Soul and Jazz vocals and wide vocal range, making her combinable with multiple music genres. Born in 1986, Anqui grew up in a multi culture part of Oslo (Norway). Coming from a family that appreciated music in every form, she was provided with great influence from day one, and started developing her musical talent at a very early age: from the age of 5 Anqui has been singing, composing, experimenting with instruments and performing in choirs, musicals and bands, as well as national talent shows and other events. Anqui was also quickly introduced to live vocal performing and studio work, and rapidly developed a mature vocal technique. Already at the age of 14 she was hired to record choirs and vocal backups for renowned Norwegian artists. Discovering the pioneers through 80’s and early 90’s Hip Hop, singers like Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Dinah Washington, Aretha Franklin, not to mention the current ones like Lauryn Hill and Erykah Badu have inspired her a great deal, and have obviously had a lot of influence on Anqui’s unique sound. Fashion was another big influence: at 16 Anqui started modeling and doing runway shows at the same time as she started giving live performances in clubs and venues in the capital city. At 19 she left for Barcelona where, apart from getting a degree in Translation & Interpretation, she continued to model, started doing private events and kept working to take her musical career to the next level. Living in Barcelona since 2006 up until present has given Anqui the privilege to perform at places in the city and around Spain, such as l’Auditori, Casa Batllò (Gaudí), el Forum, MNAC (la Sala Oval), MACBA, Rach Dingue (Dali), La Llotja, W Barcelona, I’Oceanogràfic (Valencia), The Ocean Club (Marbella) among many others, collaborating with event agencies and musicians. Anqui also performed twice at the 2011 Sónar festival in Barcelona. As for music publishing, very mentionable featurings with the electrojazz duo Debilorithmicos (Turn My Clock), the French deejays/producers The Jivers (Do What), and Hip Hop crew Chacho Brodas (various) along with the genious producer Griffi. As for Anqui’s personal projects, her latest production ’Legacy’ (tribute to Hip Hop) has also been well received in different music communities. Anqui is currently still residing in Barcelona and working freelance as an unsigned artist.
