Sol Gabetta was born in Villa María, her family moved to the capital city of Córdoba where she studied piano and cello and sang in a chorus. She continued her studies as a cellist in Buenos Aires with Leo Viola and in Madrid at the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía. At the age of 12 she left Argentina to live in Spain and then in Alsace, France.
