We’re not talking about the constant buzz of the vuvuzelas, either, but all the rock, hip-hop, indie pop acts – plus everything in between – bubbling up all over South America’s largest country.\r \r WNYC Soundcheck host John Schaefer offers guided audio tour of the country’s largest city courtesy of Buzzfeed audio editor and Sao Paulo Julia Furlan, who compares it to a Petri dish: “It’s incredibly experimental and alive and changing all the time.”\r \r She runs down five of her favorite up-and-coming bands from her native city and neighboring Rio de Janeiro, including Baleia, a six-piece known for jazzy covers of hits like Britney Spears’ “Toxic”; Aurora, an all-star band of local musicians; Boogarins, a psychedelic rock act with international reach; Zulumbi, something of a conscious rap group; and A Seco, a quintet that taps into the country’s bossa nova and samba roots.
